Updates from WHA + Get Photographing

Hi all,

there have been a bunch of updates come out of WHA, just thought we’d quickly point out any you may have missed.

  1. The WHA is calling for expressions of interest to be on the competition review committee. They’re looking for 6-8 people to determine the best way to structure our competitions and present recommendations to the Wellington Hockey Board for consideration. More info here.
  2. For anyone who doesn’t know, the WHA has submitted an application to change that Football field (that no one ever seems to use!) into a third turf at NHS. Show you’re support for this project! It’ll mean great things for Wellington Hockey. Find out more here.
  3. WHA have completed their 5 year strategic plan, take a look! They’ve alsopublished their March newsletter. These two documents are a easy way to catch up on what’s going on with Wellington Hockey.

Also! We want to see more of your games! So get your fans to take photos / videos / whatever, it’d be a lot of fun if we can get a “caption that” or something of the like going for the club. We can sort prizes, we just need photos, so get snapping!

Registration 2015

Hi all!

Registrations are open! You can register for the 2015 season here.

Please fill out a “new registration” even if you have registered with us in the past. Everyone must be registered with in order to play this year, this will enter you on the NZ hockey system.

If everything is all swell you should receive a confirmation email. The email says “no-charge”, we’ll email out details of subs later.

New Rules Update

Hi all, we just received some info on the new rules being implemented for the 2015 season. You can have a read of the full details of the new tournament rules here. Here’s the message from Wellington Hockey;

Wellington Hockey will be implementing the new rules, except high stick, across all grades of hockey.  The high stick rule will only be played for the 2015 season in the Premier One and Two grades of Open Grade hockey and the Premier One grade of Secondary School. This is to ensure that both players and umpires have the time and access to coaching/development in the lower grades to learn how to play and umpire to this rule in 2015 with the intention to introduce this rule across further grades in 2016.

As I know some of you will be interested to know, I can confirm that this is the recommendation from Capital Hockey to the other associations in the Capital region and Wairarapa hockey are aiming to do the same as Wellington with regard to these new rules.

Capital Hockey has also confirmed that Hockey NZ will be playing 15 minute quarters at U21, Regional U18 and NHL this year. Wellington Hockey will only be playing 15 minute quarters in Premier One Open Grade as per the Local Competition Handbook.

Looking forward to seeing you at trials next month!

Final Rankings 2014

That’s it for the 2014 season! The final rankings are;

  • P1 Men – 5th
  • P2 Men – 6th
  • P3 Men – 6th
  • R1 Women – 2nd!!!
  • R2 Men – 5th

Congratulations to the R1 women, carrying the club this year! Unfortunately the men were plagued with injuries and so haven’t finished with the results they hoped for. On the positive side we all managed to keep clear of relegation… We’ll have to take out the top spots next year!

We will be having a prize giving on October 18th (mark it on your calendar), venue TBD. There will be a small cover charge to help pay for the venue, same as every year. Looking forward to seeing you all there!
